1. Accreditation That Employers Actually Recognize
AVI Career Training is COE Accredited and SCHEV Certified by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. These aren’t participation ribbons. They’re the quality benchmarks that hiring managers at Northern Virginia hospitals, cardiology clinics, and cardiac care centers look for when they screen candidates. When your certificate says AVI, it carries institutional credibility — not just a certificate of completion from a website.
We also accept the GI Bill®, which means if you’ve served, we’ve been vetted at the federal level. That’s not an accident. That’s earned.
2. Real Hands-On Training — Not Another Screen-and-Quiz Experience
EKG technique is a physical skill. Electrode placement, lead positioning, patient reassurance, artifact recognition — these are things you learn by doing them on actual equipment, with an instructor in the room who can correct your technique in real time.
Our Vienna, VA campus is equipped for the clinical realities of the job. You’ll practice electrocardiography the way you’ll perform it professionally — not by watching a video and clicking “next.”
No national online provider can offer this. We can, and we do.
3. A Program Built for People with Real Lives

Many AVI students complete their EKG Technician (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) training without leaving their current job — managing their schedule around the program, not the other way around.
We understand you may have kids, a full-time position, rent due, and approximately zero patience for bureaucratic enrollment processes. We built our program to work with your life, not against it. Contact our admissions team to review current class schedules and find the option that fits.
4. Personalized Attention in a Boutique Training Environment
At AVI, you are not a student ID number. You’re a person with a specific goal, and our instructors know the difference. Our program size allows for the kind of focused, instructor-led attention that large community college cohorts and multi-hundred-student online platforms simply cannot provide.
When you have a question, you get an answer — from someone who knows your name.
5. Location at the Center of One of the Country’s Most Healthcare-Dense Job Markets
The Northern Virginia and DC metro corridor is home to a remarkable concentration of hospitals, outpatient cardiac clinics, cardiology group practices, and integrated health systems. Patient Preparation & Electrode Placement
Proper skin prep, electrode positioning across all 12 leads, and patient communication are foundational to producing an accurate, artifact-free EKG. You’ll practice these techniques repeatedly until they become second nature — because in a clinical environment, consistency is competency.
Cardiac Monitoring
Beyond the standard 12-lead EKG, you’ll gain exposure to cardiac monitoring principles, including how to recognize and respond to readings that require immediate clinical escalation.
