The Numbers That Matter

🕐 120 Hours 📍 Vienna, VA ✅ COE Accredited
One of the shortest accredited healthcare pathways available Centrally located in the heart of NoVA’s healthcare corridor Recognized by employers and certification bodies across Virginia

Why Choose AVI Career Training for Phlebotomy (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM)?

There are other places to learn phlebotomy in Northern Virginia. Here’s why students who have done their research choose AVI.

✅ We’re Accredited — and That Actually Matters

AVI Career Training holds COE accreditation and is SCHEV-certified by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. These aren’t just logos on a webpage. They’re the signals that hospitals, clinics, and lab employers use to decide which credentials they’ll accept. When you graduate from an accredited program, hiring managers don’t have to wonder whether your training was real. They already know it was.

Online-only programs and non-accredited bootcamps might look cheaper upfront. But if the employers you’re applying to don’t recognize your credential, the cost of that shortcut is an entire career.

✅ Hands-On Training From Day One — Not Screen Time

Phlebotomy (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) is a physical skill. No amount of watching videos teaches your hands how to find a vein, position a needle, or manage a nervous patient. At AVI, you practice venipuncture technique from the very beginning of the program — with real equipment, real clinical scenarios, and instructor feedback in real time.

When you complete your program at AVI, you’ll have logged verified hands-on hours that demonstrate live-patient competency. That’s what Inova, Kaiser, Labcorp, Quest, and urgent care networks across Northern Virginia are actually looking for when they review applications.

✅ Small Cohorts. Real Instructor Attention.

AVI is not a community college lecture hall. We are a boutique career training school with intentionally small class sizes, which means your instructor knows your name, tracks your progress, and corrects your technique before bad habits form. When you have a question, you get an answer — not a ticket number.

This matters especially if you’ve ever felt lost in a large classroom, if you’re returning to school after time away, or if you’re balancing training with work and family and simply can’t afford to fall behind.

✅ Location That Works for Your Career, Not Just Your Commute

Our school is located at 1595 Spring Hill Rd #720, Vienna, VA 22182 — minutes from Tysons Corner, and centrally positioned within the densest concentration of healthcare employers in all of Northern Virginia.

Inova Health System. Kaiser Permanente. NOVANT Health. Labcorp and Quest draw and processing centers. Urgent care networks stretching from Reston to Falls Church to Ashburn. The hospitals and clinics hiring phlebotomists are not across the state. They’re close — many within a short drive of where you’ll train.

✅ Flexible Scheduling Designed Around Real Life

Many AVI phlebotomy students are currently working. Some are raising children. Some are making a career pivot at 35 or 42 and can’t simply drop everything for a traditional school schedule. We get it, because we’ve built our program for people exactly like that. Contact our admissions team to discuss current schedule formats and find an option that works for your life.

Phlebotomy Program (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) Curriculum — What You’ll Learn

Total Program Hours: 120

AVI’s phlebotomy curriculum covers every competency required for certification and real-world employment. Here’s what your training includes:

Core Clinical Skills

Venipuncture Technique
The foundation of phlebotomy practice. You’ll learn proper needle insertion, angle, and depth for multiple vein sites. You’ll practice with evacuated tube systems, syringes, and butterfly needles until technique becomes instinct — not guesswork.

Capillary and Dermal Puncture
Not all specimens require venipuncture. You’ll develop competency in finger stick and heel stick collection, critical for pediatric patients and point-of-care testing environments.

Specimen Collection and Handling
Drawing blood is only the first step. You’ll learn proper tube selection and order of draw, labeling protocols, temperature requirements, centrifugation basics, and chain-of-custody documentation — because a perfectly drawn specimen that’s mishandled is a wasted draw.

Patient Interaction and Safety
Phlebotomy is a patient-facing role. You’ll learn how to communicate clearly with anxious patients, identify and respond to adverse reactions (fainting, hematoma formation, needle phobia), and follow infection control protocols that protect both patient and practitioner. This is where the “caring” part of healthcare work lives.

Lab Procedures and Quality Control
You’ll develop fluency in clinical laboratory workflows: specimen routing, basic processing, documentation standards
