Why Choose AVI Career Training for Esthetics?
There are other schools within driving distance. Here’s why students from Vienna, Fairfax, Tysons, McLean, Reston, Herndon, and Falls Church choose AVI — and why it matters for your career.
—
✅ 1. Dual Accreditation That Employers and Licensing Boards Recognize
AVI is COE (Council on Occupational Education) accredited and SCHEV (State Council of Higher Education for Virginia) certified. These aren’t participation trophies — they’re the credentials that tell employers, licensing boards, and financial aid offices that your education was rigorous, legitimate, and worth backing.
When you graduate from AVI, you walk into a job interview with a credential that holds up. When you sit for the Virginia State Board exam, you’re prepared. When you apply for federal financial aid, you’re eligible. That’s what accreditation actually does for you — and not every school in this market can say the same.
—
✅ 2. Hands-On Training From Day One — Not Theory in a Classroom
Esthetics is a tactile skill. You learn it by doing it — analyzing real skin, performing real facials, executing real chemical peels on real clients — not by reading about it. AVI’s curriculum is built around clinical, hands-on practice in a professional training environment so that by the time you graduate, you have the muscle memory, the confidence, and the client interaction experience that employers expect.
You won’t spend your first week on the job figuring out what you actually learned. You’ll already know.
—
✅ 3. Trained to Work on Every Client — Skin Inclusivity Is Baked In
Here’s something too many beauty schools won’t say out loud: if your training only covers one skin tone, you’re not prepared for the real world.
Northern Virginia is one of the most ethnically and racially diverse markets in the United States. Your future clients will have every Fitzpatrick skin type, every concern, and every background. AVI’s esthetics curriculum trains you to work beautifully and safely on all skin tones — because that’s not a bonus feature. It’s table stakes for a career in this market.
—
✅ 4. A School Designed for Real Life — Not Just Recent High School Graduates
AVI was built for people who have responsibilities. That means career changers in their 30s and 40s who are done with jobs that don’t feed them. Military spouses navigating a move. Working adults who need a training schedule that doesn’t blow up their income before they have a new one. Stay-at-home parents stepping back into the workforce with intention.
If you’ve ever looked at a beauty school program and thought, “I don’t have time for this” — we want to have a real conversation about what your schedule actually looks like and what’s possible.
—
✅ 5. Northern Virginia Market Knowledge — Built Right Into Your Training
You’re not just training to be an esthetician. You’re training to build a career in one of the highest-income, highest-demand beauty markets on the East Coast. The NoVA/DC metro area supports upscale spas, medical aesthetics practices, luxury hotels, and an enormous and growing private client market. AVI is located in the heart of this market — and that local context is part of what you learn.

Tuition & Financial Aid
Your Investment — And How to Make It Work
We’re not going to post a tuition number here without having a conversation first — because your actual cost depends on what financial aid you qualify for, and we don’t want a sticker price to stop you before you know what’s actually available to you.
Here’s what we want you to know:
—
💳 Financial Aid Is Available
AVI Career Training is accredited by COE, which means we meet the eligibility requirements for federal student financial aid programs. If you have a high school diploma or GED and meet standard aid requirements, you may qualify. We’ll help you find out.

Frequently Asked Questions
Real Answers to the Questions We Hear Every Day
—
❓ Do I need any prior experience in skin care or beauty to enroll?
No. AVI’s esthetics program is designed to take you from zero prior experience to fully licensed. You do not need to have worked in a salon, spa, or any beauty setting before you apply. What we do ask is that you bring genuine interest, a willingness to learn hands-on, and the commitment to complete your 600 hours. Everything else, we teach.
—
❓ How long will the 600-hour program actually take?
That depends on your schedule — and it’s one of the first things we’ll talk about together. Full-time students typically complete the program faster than part-time students. We understand you may have a job, children, or other obligations that shape what “full-time” can realistically mean for you. Contact us and let’s look at your actual schedule to give you a realistic completion timeline. It’s not as distant as you might think.
—
❓ What does the Virginia esthetician licensing exam cover, and how does AVI prepare me for it?
The Virginia State Board of Cosmetology Esthetics examination has two components: a written (theory) exam and a practical (hands-on) exam. The written portion tests your knowledge of skin science, sanitation, safety, and applicable Virginia laws and regulations. The practical portion tests your ability to perform core esthetics procedures to professional standards.
AVI’s curriculum is built around both components. In the final portion of your 600 hours, we incorporate dedicated State Board exam preparation — reviewing theory content, walking through the practical evaluation criteria, and ensuring you know exactly what to expect on exam day.
—
❓ Will AVI help me find a job after I graduate?
We’re invested in your career beyond graduation day. While we cannot guarantee job placement — and any school that does should raise your eyebrow — we provide career support that includes guidance on navigating the Northern Virginia job market, understanding different employment models (commission, hourly, booth rental, self-employment), and presenting yourself professionally to employers. We also have connections within the local beauty industry that we apply on behalf of our graduates.
The NoVA/DC metro market is strong for licensed estheticians. Our job is to make sure you’re ready to take full advantage of it.
—
❓ I’m a career changer in my 30s or 40s. Is esthetics school realistic for me at this stage?
Not only realistic — it’s one of the most common paths through our door. A significant portion of AVI’s esthetics students are career changers: people who have spent years in corporate environments, healthcare support roles, military service, or full-time caregiving, and who are ready for work that is hands-on, creative, human, and genuinely theirs.
Esthetics rewards maturity, professionalism, and the ability to connect with clients — qualities that people with life and work experience often bring in abundance. If you’re worried about being “too old” or “too far behind,” let’s talk. We think you might be surprised.
