Why Choose AVI for Your Esthetics (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) Training?

There are other esthetics (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) programs in Virginia. Here’s why students from Vienna, Tysons, McLean, Reston, Fairfax, Herndon, and Falls Church choose AVI — and why it matters for your career.

1. Accreditation That Your Future Employer Will Recognize

AVI Career Training is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE) and certified by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). That’s not a checkbox — it’s your assurance that the license you earn here is fully recognized by the Virginia Board for Barbers and Cosmetologists, and respected by spas, medical offices, and salons across the DMV and beyond.

When a Tysons day spa or a McLean med spa is reviewing your résumé, accreditation is the first thing they check. At AVI, you pass that test before you even graduate.

2. Instructors Who Work in the Industry — Not Just Teach About It

Our esthetics (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) instructors aren’t academics reading from a textbook. They are working professionals who have sat behind the treatment table, built client books, navigated skin conditions across every Fitzpatrick scale, and managed the real pressures of a busy skincare practice. They bring that experience into the classroom every single day.

You’ll learn from people who can tell you not just what a chemical peel does — but how to read a client’s skin before you apply it, what to say when a client has a reaction, and how to build the kind of trust that turns a first-time client into a loyal regular.

3. Hands-On Training in a Real Clinical Environment

At AVI, you don’t spend 400 hours watching slideshows. From early in the program, you are in the lab — performing facials, practicing waxing techniques, conducting skin analyses, and working with professional-grade equipment used in today’s top spas and med spas.

By the time you sit for the Virginia state board exam, you won’t just know the theory. You’ll have the hands to back it up.

4. Small Classes, Personal Attention, and Inclusive Training

We deliberately keep our class sizes small. That means your instructor actually knows your name, notices when you’re struggling with a technique, and adjusts to help you. You’re not a number in a volume-driven enrollment machine.

Our training is also built on a core belief: every esthetician should be able to work beautifully on every skin tone. From hyperpigmentation to melanin-rich skin’s unique response to chemical exfoliants, AVI prepares you to serve the full, diverse range of clients you’ll actually encounter in Northern Virginia’s incredibly varied market. That’s a specific commitment — and a real competitive edge when you’re job hunting.

5. Convenience That Fits Northern Virginia Life

We’re located at 1595 Spring Hill Rd #720, Vienna, VA 22182 — minutes from the Tysons corridor, easily accessible from Reston, Herndon, McLean, Fairfax, and Falls Church. You don’t need to commute to DC or Maryland for a quality esthetics education. The best program is right here, in the community where you’re likely to build your career.

What You’ll Learn: AVI’s 600-Hour Esthetics (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) Curriculum

Virginia requires 600 clock hours of esthetics training to sit for the state licensing exam. Every one of those hours at AVI is designed to build a skill you’ll use in your career.

Core Skills & Subject Areas

Skincare Science Foundations
Understanding the anatomy of the skin is where everything begins. You’ll study the layers of the epidermis and dermis, how the skin ages, how different skin types and conditions present, and how lifestyle, hormones, and environment affect skin health. This scientific foundation makes everything else you do more precise and more effective.

Skin Analysis & Client Consultation
You’ll learn how to assess a client’s skin type (normal, oily, dry, combination, sensitive) and identify common skin conditions including acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, dehydration, and signs of premature aging. Client consultation skills — including how to ask the right questions, document skin history, and set realistic expectations — are woven throughout the program.

Facial Treatments
The core of esthetics practice. You’ll master European facial techniques including cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, massage, and masking. You’ll practice on real people, not mannequins, developing the intuition and touch that separates a skilled esthetician from a mediocre one.

Chemical Exfoliation & Peels
You’ll be trained in the proper application, timing, and aftercare of chemical exfoliants including alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), and enzyme treatments. Safety protocols, contraindications, and how to adapt treatments for sensitive or melanin-rich skin are all covered in depth.

Waxing & Hair Removal
From brow shaping to full-body waxing, you’ll develop speed, precision, and technique. You&#8
