Why Choose AVI Career Training for Esthetics (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM)?

There are beauty schools in Northern Virginia. And then there is AVI. Here is what sets us apart — and why it matters for your career.

1. COE Accreditation: The Quality Standard That Protects You

AVI Career Training is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE) and certified by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). These are not marketing badges. They are independent, rigorous verifications that our curriculum, instructors, facilities, and outcomes meet high professional standards.

Federal financial aid (FAFSA/Title IV) is NOT available for this program as it does not meet the minimum 600-hour requirement. AVI offers flexible payment plans and private financing options.

What this means for you: You are investing in a program that has been externally reviewed and approved — not just a school that says it is good.

2. Small Classes. More Hands-On Time. Better Results.

At AVI, you are not a number in a lecture hall. Our intentionally small class sizes mean you spend more time with your hands in product, more time on live clients, and more time getting direct feedback from your instructor — not watching someone else practice from the back of a crowded room.

Esthetics (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) is a tactile profession. You get better by doing. We structure our program so you are doing from the very beginning.

3. Inclusive Skin Training — Built Into the Curriculum

If you are going to build a career serving the Northern Virginia and DC metro community, your training needs to reflect that community. Greater Washington is one of the most ethnically and racially diverse metro areas in the United States.

AVI’s esthetics (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) curriculum includes explicit instruction on working skillfully and confidently with every skin tone — understanding melanin-rich skin, managing hyperpigmentation, selecting appropriate peeling agents for diverse Fitzpatrick types, and delivering results-driven treatments for all clients who walk through your door.

This is not a supplement. It is part of the core program — because it is part of the real job.

4. Conveniently Located in Vienna, Virginia

Our campus is located at 1595 Spring Hill Rd #720, Vienna, VA 22182 — right in the heart of the Tysons Corner corridor, easily accessible from Vienna, McLean, Reston, Falls Church, Fairfax, Herndon, Sterling, and Arlington.

You do not need to commute into DC or across the Beltway to get top-quality esthetics training. It is right here in Northern Virginia, close to home, close to the spas and medspas where you will build your career.

5. GI Bill® Accepted — Supporting Those Who Served

AVI Career Training proudly accepts GI Bill® education benefits. If you are a veteran, active-duty servicemember, or military spouse exploring a new career path, our admissions team will help you understand your benefits and apply them toward your esthetics (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) education. Northern Virginia’s large military community deserves a school that shows up for it.

What You Will Learn: The 600-Hour Esthetics (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) Curriculum

Virginia requires 600 hours of approved esthetics training before you can sit for the State Board licensing exam. At AVI, those 600 hours are carefully structured to build your knowledge from the ground up — from science and theory through advanced hands-on clinical practice.

Core Curriculum Areas

Skin Science & Theory
You cannot treat skin you do not understand. The program begins with a strong foundation in skin anatomy, physiology, and histology — the structure of the skin, how it functions, how it ages, and how it responds to treatment. You will study skin typing, the Fitzpatrick Scale, contraindications, and the biology behind common skin conditions including acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, and sensitivity.

Facial Treatments & Massage Techniques
The heart of esthetics practice. You will learn classic European facial protocol, massage manipulation techniques, product layering, steam and extraction, lymphatic drainage massage, and how to customize every treatment to the individual client in the chair. Practice begins on mannequins and moves quickly to supervised work on real clients in our student clinic.

Skin Analysis & Consultation
Knowing what a client needs — before you apply a single product — is a professional skill. You will learn to perform thorough skin analysis using visual assessment and tactile evaluation, translate findings into a treatment plan, document client records, and communicate recommendations clearly and confidently.

Hair Removal: Waxing & Related Techniques
Waxing is one of the most consistent revenue-generating services in esthetics. AVI’s curriculum covers full facial and body waxing, hard wax and soft w
