Why Choose AVI Career Training for Nail Technology (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM)?
There are options when it comes to beauty education in Northern Virginia. What sets AVI apart isn’t just what we teach — it’s how we teach it, who we teach it to, and what you leave with.
1. We’re Accredited and Certified — and That Matters More Than You Think.
AVI Career Training is COE accredited (Council on Occupational Education) and SCHEV certified (State Council of Higher Education for Virginia). These aren’t just logos on a letterhead. They mean:
- Our program meets rigorous national and state standards for quality education
- Your training credentials are recognized by licensing boards and employers
- You’re training toward a real, legally recognized Virginia nail technician license
Online nail courses, YouTube tutorials, and informal “nail training” workshops can teach you technique — but they cannot make you licensable in Virginia. Only accredited training hours count toward the 150 required by the Virginia Board for Barbers and Cosmetology. At AVI, every hour you spend in our program counts toward your future license. Period.
2. Hands-On Training From Day One — Not Lectures. Actual Nails.
We believe you learn this craft by doing it, not by watching slideshows about it. Our Vienna training facility is a working, active learning environment where students practice real techniques on real clients under the close guidance of experienced instructors.
You’ll leave with a portfolio of skills, not just a certificate. By the time you sit for your Virginia state board exam, you’ve already done this work dozens of times.
3. Small Class Sizes — You’re Not a Number Here.
At a large chain beauty school, you can get lost in the crowd. At AVI, small class sizes mean our instructors actually know your name, your goals, your strengths, and where you need more support. You get real feedback, real relationships, and real investment in your success.
This is education built around you — not a revolving door.
4. Training for Every Skin Tone and Nail Type — Inclusive From Day One.
The Northern Virginia and DMV market is one of the most culturally diverse regions in the country. Your future clients will reflect that. From your very first training sessions, AVI prepares you to work beautifully across all skin tones, nail types, and client needs — because inclusive technique isn’t an add-on here. It’s foundational.
Graduates who can serve every client confidently are graduates who build full books, loyal client bases, and lasting careers.
5. Conveniently Located in Vienna, VA — Right in the Heart of Northern Virginia
Our school is located at 1595 Spring Hill Rd #720, Vienna, VA 22182 — easily accessible from Tysons Corner, McLean, Fairfax, Reston, Arlington, Falls Church, and the broader DC metro area. You don’t have to commute to Maryland or DC to access quality beauty education. It’s right here in Northern Virginia.
Nail Technology (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) Program Curriculum
What You’ll Learn in 150 Hours
Virginia’s Board for Barbers and Cosmetology requires 150 clock hours of training from an accredited school before you can sit for the state board licensing exam. AVI’s Nail Technology (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) curriculum is designed to not only meet those requirements — but to send you into that exam prepared, practiced, and confident.
Every skill in our curriculum is chosen because it reflects what real nail technicians do in real salons, spas, studios, and mobile businesses every day.
Core Skill Areas
Manicures & Pedicures
The foundation of every nail tech’s service menu. You’ll master both wet and dry techniques, proper nail shaping and cuticle care, hand and foot massage protocols, and sanitation procedures that protect both you and your clients. You’ll perform these services repeatedly — on mannequin hands, on fellow students, and on real clients in our supervised clinic environment.
Nail Art & Creative Design
This is where the artistry lives. You’ll develop skills in freehand nail art, stamping, decals, and detailed design techniques. Whether your clients want classic French tips, bold geometric patterns, seasonal designs, or intricate custom art — you’ll have the technical foundation to deliver. And no, you don’t need to walk in already being “artistic.” This skill is teachable. We’ll teach it.
Acrylic Nail Enhancements
One of the highest-demand services in any nail salon. You’ll learn proper product application, sculpting, fill techniques, and removal — along with how to protect the natural nail and maintain client nail health. Acrylic work is a primary income driver for most nail technicians, and we treat it with the depth it deserves.
Gel Enhancements & Gel Polish
Gel services have become a cornerstone of modern nail salons. You’ll master application, curing, removal, and maintenance techniques that keep clients coming back. From basic gel polish to builder gels and hard gels, you’ll build real competency in every major product type.
Nail Health & Safety Protocols
Sanitation, sterilization, and client safety aren’t footnotes — they’re fundamental. You’ll learn proper disinfection procedures, how to identify nail infections and conditions that require referral, and how to protect yourself and your clients from cross-contamination. The Virginia Board takes these seriously. So do we.
State Board Exam Preparation
We don’t just teach you the skills — we prepare you to pass the exam that proves you know them. Your instructors are familiar with Virginia Board exam standards and teach directly to those standards. Mock exams, written practice tests, and practical review sessions are built into our curriculum.
Tuition & Payment Options (No Federal Financial Aid)
Federal financial aid (FAFSA/Title IV) is NOT available for this program as it does not meet the minimum 600-hour requirement. AVI offers flexible payment plans and private financing options.
We believe affordability shouldn’t be a barrier to quality education. That’s why we offer multiple ways to pay for your training, and we work with each student to find a solution that fits their budget and situation.
GI Bill® and Military Benefits
If you’re an eligible veteran or active-duty service member, AVI Career Training is approved for GI Bill® benefits. Your military service can help pay for your Nail Technology (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) training. Contact our admissions team to explore your eligibility and benefits.
Flexible Payment Plans
Pay your tuition in installments that align with your program schedule, not a rigid payment calendar. Most students complete their Nail Technology (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) training in 3–6 months, making our programs easier to finance without taking on massive debt.
Private Financing Options
AVI partners with private lenders and financing platforms that serve students in career training programs. These are not federal loans, but they can provide a pathway to funding if you don’t qualify for federal aid or prefer an alternative.
Ready to Start Your Career in Nail Technology (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM)?
You’re closer to a licensed, paying career than you think. Whether you want to work in a high-end salon, build your own mobile business, open a boutique studio, or become a educator in the industry — your path starts with 150 hours of focused, hands-on training.
