Why Choose AVI for Nail Technology (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM)?
There are plenty of places that claim to teach nails. AVI Career Training is one of the few that does it right — with the accreditation, the instructors, the hands-on environment, and the career focus to prove it.
Here’s what sets us apart:
1. Accreditation That Actually Matters
AVI Career Training is COE (Council on Occupational Education) accredited and SCHEV (State Council of Higher Education for Virginia) certified. That’s not fine print — it’s the difference between a credential Virginia recognizes and one that doesn’t clear the state board application desk.
Federal financial aid (FAFSA/Title IV) is NOT available for this program as it does not meet the minimum 600-hour requirement. AVI offers flexible payment plans and private financing options.
2. A Program Built Around Nails — Not Bolted On
At large beauty chains and community colleges, nail technology (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) is often a footnote to a broader cosmetology curriculum. At AVI, nail technology is a dedicated, complete program. Every hour of instruction is focused on making you an exceptional nail professional — not just a well-rounded cosmetology student who happened to touch on nails for a few weeks.
3. Small Classes. Real Attention. Actual Learning.
We keep class sizes intentionally small. That means your instructors know your name, track your progress, and catch technique issues before they become bad habits. You’re not a face in a 40-person lecture hall. You’re a student being prepared for a professional license and a professional career.
4. Hands-On Training from Day One
You will not spend your 150 hours watching slideshows. AVI’s nail technology (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) training is built around doing — performing manicures and pedicures, applying acrylics and gels, executing nail art, and learning the sanitation and safety protocols that separate professional nail techs from amateurs. By the time you finish, you’ll have real service hours under your belt, not just classroom theory.
5. Located in the Heart of Northern Virginia’s Premier Market
Our school sits at 1595 Spring Hill Rd #720, Vienna, VA 22182 — in the Tysons Corner corridor, one of the most affluent, salon-dense, and professionally active markets in the entire DC metro area. That’s not a coincidence. We put you in proximity to the market where you’ll be building your career: salons, med spas, nail boutiques, and upscale hotels that employ and pay licensed nail professionals at competitive Northern Virginia rates.
Program Curriculum
What You’ll Learn in 150 Hours
Our curriculum is designed to meet and exceed Virginia Board of Barbering and Cosmetology requirements, so you walk into your state board exam prepared and confident. Here’s what the program covers:
Core Technical Skills
Manicures & Nail Care Fundamentals
Nail anatomy, growth patterns, nail disorders and diseases you’re legally permitted to work with (and which to refer out), proper filing techniques, cuticle care, hand massage, and professional-grade polish application. You’ll perform dozens of manicures before you graduate.
Pedicures
Foot anatomy, soaking and softening techniques, callus care, nail trimming and shaping, lower leg massage, and paraffin treatments. Pedicures are a significant revenue driver in any nail service menu — you’ll be fully prepared to deliver them professionally.
Acrylic Nail Enhancements
Application of acrylic (liquid and powder) systems, sculpting, filling, and removal. Acrylics remain one of the most in-demand services in the Northern Virginia market. You’ll learn to do them correctly, safely, and efficiently.
Gel Systems & Gel Polish
Hard gel, soft gel, and gel-polish (shellac-style) application, curing protocols, maintenance, and safe removal. Gel services are a staple at every modern nail salon — mastering both systems makes you immediately employable.
Nail Art & Design
Freehand painting, stamping, decals, ombré and gradient techniques, foils, and design fundamentals. Nail art is a growing revenue stream and a powerful way to build a loyal personal clientele. You’ll develop both technique and your own creative voice.
Professional & Safety Standards
Sanitation, Disinfection & Infection Control
Virginia’s state board places enormous emphasis on proper sanitation procedures. You’ll learn OSHA standards, EPA-registered disinfectant protocols, tool sterilization, and the professional practices that protect both you and your clients.
Product Chemistry & Safety
Understanding the products you work with — their chemical composition, proper ventilation requirements, safe handling, and contraindications — is a professional and legal responsibility. We cover it thoroughly.
Client Consultation & Communication
Building a loyal clientele starts with communication. You’ll
