Why Choose AVI for Esthetics?
There’s no shortage of beauty schools in the DC metro area. But there’s only one COE-accredited esthetics program in the heart of Northern Virginia’s premium spa corridor — training students to work confidently on every client who walks through the door.
Here’s what makes AVI different:
1. Accreditation That Actually Matters
AVI Career Training is COE Accredited and SCHEV Certified — two credentials that protect you as a student and signal professional legitimacy to every employer, licensing board, and financial aid office in the country. Not every school in Virginia can say that. Yours should be able to.
COE accreditation means AVI has met rigorous independent standards for curriculum quality, instructor qualifications, and student outcomes. When you graduate from AVI, your credential carries weight.
2. You’re in the Right Location for a Skin Career
Vienna, Tysons, McLean, Reston, Fairfax — this corridor is home to some of the highest-income households on the East Coast, packed with med spas, luxury day spas, dermatology clinics, and wellness studios actively hiring licensed estheticians.
You’re not training in a vacuum. You’re training in your future job market. AVI’s location at 1595 Spring Hill Rd #720, Vienna, VA 22182 puts you minutes from the employers who want to hire you.
3. Small Classes. Real Instructors. Actual Attention.
AVI is not a factory school. Our class sizes are intentionally small so that your instructors can actually know your name, correct your technique in real time, and help you build the kind of confidence that shows up on a client’s face when they look in the mirror after a facial.
Our instructors are licensed, experienced industry professionals — not lecturers reading from a textbook. They’ve worked in spas, clinics, and salons. They know what employers want because they’ve been on that floor.
4. Trained to Work on Every Skin Tone — Not Just Some
Northern Virginia is one of the most racially and ethnically diverse markets in the United States. Your future clients will reflect that reality.
AVI’s esthetics curriculum is built to train you on the full spectrum of skin tones, types, and concerns — from hyperpigmentation and melanin-rich skin to sensitivity, rosacea, and everything between. This isn’t a talking point. It’s a training philosophy that makes our graduates more employable, more skilled, and more trusted by the clients they serve.
5. Financial Aid Available — Including GI Bill®
Cost is the number one reason people talk themselves out of esthetics school. At AVI, financial aid is available for those who qualify, and we proudly accept the GI Bill® — making AVI one of the most accessible professional training options for veterans and military spouses in the NoVA/DC metro area.
Don’t let price be the thing that keeps you in a job you hate.

We believe cost should not be the barrier that keeps someone from a career they’re meant for.
Financial aid is available at AVI Career Training for students who qualify — including federal aid programs that help cover tuition, supplies, and more. Every student’s financial picture is different, and we take the time to walk through your specific options with you before you make any decisions.
We proudly accept the GI Bill® — making AVI one of the most veteran-accessible career training programs in Northern Virginia. If you’re a veteran, active-duty service member, or qualifying military spouse, your esthetics education may be significantly funded through your earned benefits.
Additional options may include:
– Payment plans
– Scholarships (ask our admissions team about current availability)

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any experience or prerequisites to enroll in the esthetics program?
No prior esthetics or beauty experience is required. AVI’s program is designed to take you from beginner to job-ready in 600 hours. You do need to meet Virginia’s basic enrollment requirements — our admissions team will walk you through those specifics when you connect with us. If you’ve been thinking about skincare and haven’t done anything about it yet, that’s exactly where we expect most students to start.
How long does it take to complete the 600-hour esthetics program?
Program length depends on your schedule — how many days per week you attend and whether you’re enrolled full-time or part-time. Many students complete the 600-hour requirement in a matter of months. When you speak with our admissions team, we’ll talk through your current schedule and help you map out a realistic timeline. We know many of our students have jobs, kids, and other commitments — and we work with that reality, not against it.
What is the Virginia esthetician licensing exam like?
After completing your 600 hours, you’ll apply to sit for the Virginia Board of Barbering and Cosmetology exam, which includes both a written (theory) component and a practical (hands-on) component. AVI’s curriculum is built around state board preparation — we cover the content tested on the written exam and simulate the practical exam conditions throughout your training so the real thing isn’t a surprise. We want you to pass. We prepare you accordingly.
Will AVI help me find a job after I graduate?
AVI’s focus on career outcomes doesn’t stop at graduation. We prepare you not just to get licensed, but to get hired — or to launch on your own. Our location in the heart of the Vienna/Tysons corridor means we have relationships with local spas, salons, and wellness businesses. Our instructors know the market and can speak to what local employers are looking for. We also cover resume fundamentals, interview preparation, and basic business skills as part of your overall training. You won’t be handed a diploma and sent into the world cold.
I’m already a cosmetologist / nail tech / massage therapist. Can I add an esthetics license?
Absolutely — and you’re not starting from scratch. If you’re already licensed in another beauty or wellness discipline, adding your Virginia Esthetics License expands your service menu, your earning potential, and your professional versatility. Many of AVI’s students are exactly in your position: already in the industry, already successful, and ready to do more. Contact us to discuss how your existing background may factor into your enrollment path.
