Why Choose AVI for ESL?

Because Generic English Classes Don’t Get You a License

Most ESL programs teach you how to talk about the weather. AVI’s program (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) teaches you the words that actually matter — the ones on your Virginia state board exam, in your client consultations, on your job applications, and in your professional life. Here’s what makes AVI different.

1. ESL (NO FINANCIAL AID FOR THIS PROGRAM) Built Around Your Beauty Career — Not Someone Else’s General Education Goals

At NOVA Community College and most ESL programs, you study English as a subject. At AVI, you study English as the key that unlocks your cosmetology, esthetics, nail technology, or massage therapy license. Every lesson is grounded in real career context — the reading passages you’ll encounter on state board exams, the professional vocabulary used in licensed salons and spas, and the communication skills you need to serve a diverse American clientele with confidence.

You’re not taking a detour. You’re taking the direct road to your license.

2. A School That Understands Where You Come From

AVI Career Training was built to serve the real Northern Virginia community — one of the most diverse regions in the United States. Our staff includes multilingual team members who understand what it feels like to navigate a new country, a new language, and a new professional system at the same time. You won’t feel invisible here. You won’t feel dismissed. You’ll feel like you belong — because you do.

We train students to work beautifully on every skin tone. That’s not just a statement about technique. It’s a statement about who we believe deserves to be in this industry.

3. Small Cohorts, Personalized Mentorship

Large community colleges process hundreds of ESL students at a time. At AVI, you’re known by name. Our small cohort model means your instructor sees your progress, understands your specific challenges, and supports you through the moments when it feels hard — because it will sometimes feel hard, and that’s okay. Progress is the goal, not perfection.

4. COE Accredited and SCHEV Certified — A School You Can Trust

AVI Career Training is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE) and certified by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). These aren’t rubber-stamp credentials. They mean AVI meets rigorous standards for educational quality, financial integrity, and student outcomes. When you see these accreditations, you can trust that your investment is protected and your credential is legitimate.

We know that immigrant communities have been burned by predatory for-profit schools. AVI is not that school. Our accreditations, our track record, and our community reputation are the proof.

5. Flexible Scheduling and Payment Options — Because Life Doesn’t Stop for School

School pickups. Work shifts. Family obligations. You live a full life, and your training program needs to work around it — not the other way around. Federal financial aid (FAFSA/Title IV) is NOT available for this program as it does not meet the minimum 600-hour requirement. AVI offers flexible payment plans and private financing options. We also accept the GI Bill® for eligible veterans and military spouses. Our admissions team will walk you through every option with patience and clarity, in plain language you can understand.
